Our Nevada Tax Attorneys Provide IRS Help!
A Nevada Tax Problem Resolution Law Firm
Our Tax Attorneys Help Individuals and Small Businesses with IRS Problems, such as:
* Offers in Compromise
An Offer in Compromise is an agreement between a taxpayer and the IRS settling the taxpayer's liability for a specific amount. Rather than being based upon the amount owed, the amount of the Offer in Compromise is based upon the taxpayer's ability to pay. Offers in Compromise are complicated and not readily granted. People and businesses must meet strict criteria to qualify for an offer.
* Levy Release
The IRS seizes assets by levy, with wages and bank accounts being common targets. IRS levies can be devastating. If a levy is placed on a person's paycheck, a majority of the check goes to the IRS, leaving the person with only a small fraction of their pay. Fortunately, following the right procedure, a levy may be released if it creates an undue hardship. Once the levy is released, the person may seek non collectible status or enter into an installment agreement.
* Non Collectible Status
Sometimes people simply cannot make payments on their tax liabilities. If this is the case, the IRS may place the taxpayer in non collectible status. So long as the taxpayer's income is insufficient to make payments, the IRS will not take steps to collect the obligation.
* Installment Agreements
If someone simply needs time to pay his or her tax liability, a payment plan may be carefully crafted to resolve the tax problem. This is commonly known as an installment agreement. The amount of the monthly payment will depend upon the amount owed, and what your income and expenses are.
* Unfiled Tax Returns
Too often a tax return is not filed for some reason, which leads to the next year's return being missed, and then the next, and the next, and so on. After we obtain information about income, etc., from the IRS, we can help you file those un-filed returns. We have excellent accountants with whom we have partnered who are experts at filing tax returns with limited information.
* Innocent Spouse
Many times IRS liabilities arise because of a former or current spouse. The client often had nothing to do with the tax liability. Perhaps a business failed and the former spouse did not pay IRS obligations. You find out there is a problem when your refund is seized for the former spouse's liability. The IRS does care, it collects from the most convenient person.
However, a non responsible spouse may be relieved of responsibility under a special IRS program. Qualify, and you won't be liable for your former spouse's tax liability.
* Appeals
IRS actions affect taxpayers in many ways. The IRS may assess taxes, file tax liens, take action to levy on income or assets, as well as other disruptive actions. However, nearly all IRS actions have an Appeal process. You have the right to have such actions reviewed, which may even be by a Judge.
Appeals are tricky though. To avoid the pitfalls of appeals, employing our Nevada tax attorney is your best option to solve your IRS problem.
* Tax Court Representation
When the IRS takes strikes, the results are often disastrous. You are entitled to have many IRS actions reviewed, which often involves a Judge. However, just like any appeal, such Court Actions are complicated. Handled properly, you can avoid the pitfalls and possibly solve your tax problems.
For many clients, penalties make up a huge portion of the amount owed. Fortunately, through a process called Penalty Abatement, the penalties may be eliminated. With reasonable cause the penalties may be abated, leaving you a much lower balance owed to the IRS.
* Bankruptcy Analysis
Many taxpayers do not realize that taxes may be subject to discharge through Bankruptcy. The rules are complicated and there are many factors to consider that affect tax discharge in Bankruptcy. While bankruptcy may be right sometimes, it is often not the right answer to solve the tax problem. Having our Nevada tax attorney analyze the situation will help you know what is best for you.
